leave a comment »

True story: back in the day, I was bit of a Street Fighter junkie. I loved the game. I think at one time I owned 3-4 games. After Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter EX 3, I let it go. But after seeing this, I may have to go into Street Fighter training.

Check it out!

[E]lemental Wish List: Google Nexus One

leave a comment »

Google has finally released their first piece of hardware: Google Nexus One. As of right now you can buy the phone unlocked and untied to a service for $529, or start a 2-year contract with T-Mobile and get the phone for $179. I love my iPhone but my eye is wandering. Hopefully soon it’ll become compatible with the AT&T network, but I imagine that won’t happen till their contract with Apple runs out.

I can’t afford to make a bad decision right now by buying this phone….

Peace.

[E]lemental KC Featured Artist: Freshbrew Creative Design by Kyle Smith

with one comment

Kyle Smith is a guy I’ve known for a few years now. Early on in my budding stages as a would-be entrepreneur, Kyle was already doing it big by teaching himself graphic design and the technology behind it. Now, I don’t necessarily think you can “teach” a person design, but you can teach them how to make their designs and dreams come true. Kyle seems to be doing it all on his own. Go to his website and see more of his work. Maybe you can get a little design work done, too! I did. Just check out the Fountainhead logo below….

Peace.

[E]lemental KC’s Don Juan Cornelius Presents…The Daper Don Mixtape

with 4 comments

Click here to listen to his mix!

***Preface***  This mixtape is my mix of my favorite songs from each year.  And each track number is listed by year.  You know how the Roots albums always start their track number after where the last one left off (i.e. Organix (Roots first album) was 1-17, Do You Want More (Roots second album) was 18-33), etc.) well that’s what I am doing here.  The first track on my mix is ’94 from the first year and the last track is ’09 ending with the last.  Every writer has their own style and this is mine.  Let’s go for a journey.

1994.  It Ain’t Hard to Tell – Nas [Illmatic] (Pete Rock called the album Illmatic “the best 40 minutes in hip hop history” so with that said from one of the most respected hip hop artist ever, I had to take a song from this album.  I couldn’t keep it off.)

1995.  Incarcerated Scarfaces – Raekwon [Only Built For Cuban Linx] (most people don’t like Raekwon the Chef, but many artist put the album Only Built For Cuban Linx in their top five.  I couldn’t sleep if I left this one off.  Sorry!)

1996.  D’Evils – Jay-Z [Reasonable Doubt] (Jay-Z: We used to fight for building blocks, now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin’).  If you spittin’ lyrics like that, you win with my vote.  Even if “If I Ruled the World” came out this same year.  Jay was hungry

1997.  My Downfall – Notorious B.I.G. [Life After Death] (Favorite song from the best Biggie album even over Ready to Die (yeah Richard Rundiss I said it.)

1998.  Ready to Meet Him – DMX [Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood ] (I went to a DMX concert where he prayed and then performed this song.  People were speechless afterwards and nobody wanted to move.  Too much passion and desire to become a better man.)

1999.  Hell 4 A Hustler -  2Pac and the Outlawz (With all of my struggles in life I always pray “God will help me change my ways”.  This song summed everything up perfectly.)

2000.  Hip Hop – Dead Prez (even Chappelle opened every Chappelle’s show to this song, crazy beat with lyrics showing where hip hop was going before anyone even knew.  Too bad we have a problem now when Dead Prez tried to stop it years ago).

2001.  What Goes Around – Nas (My Favorite Song all time.  Listen to the bars, unbelievable.  I listened to this song like 20 times in a row.  I think I knew every verse in 2 days.  There are four 16 bar verses to this song.  Again, unbelievable.  NO ONE kicks knowledge like Nasir.)

2002 (tie).  Heaven – Scarface [The Fix]/ The Proud – Talib Kweli [Quality] (Sorry couldn’t choose.  Heaven = better song,The Proud = better bars.  Fuck it, go get both.  By the way, I wanted to put Scarface “In Between Us w/ Nas” right here but most of my guys like this song a little more but they love “In Between Us” also.  And since I like both songs equally, this one wins by vote of my guys.)

2003. 50 Cent – Many Men [Get Rich or Die Tryin'] ( I really don’t like 50 but this was too much heat.  Best song from the best album this year.  50, are you going to get back to this level)???

2004.  Jesus Walks – Kanye West [The College Dropout] (College Dropout debut had so much heat and so much to choose from, but from a content standpoint… best song of the year.  I struggled with this one, I had like 5 different songs from this album alone I wanted on here.  But this moved me the most).

2005.  Be – Common [Be] (When Mos Def said the first cut should be the deepest… my god, I guess Common took that to heart.  Remember “Walk Like Warriors we were never told to run”.  Unbelievable.)

2006.  American Terrorist – Lupe Fiasco [Food and Liquor] (As Cornel West said, this is the best artist of this generation.  I totally agree.  Actually, I think Lupe is the best artist rapping right now (not for a career though, so no he doesn’t pass Nas).  Subject matter is on a whole different level.  I wanted to put Lupe’s “Real” on here as a banger, but this is a better song.)

2007  Champion – Kanye West [Graduation] (with the Kid Charlemagne sampl e so perfect, and he held it down during a hard year for hip hop music, I had a hard time keeping Kanye West off the list twice.  Same with Nasir Jones).

2008. Manwomanboogie – Q-Tip [The Renaissance] (Cold ass single.  Q-Tip is so dope and this album is different but classic.  LG was one of the only cats I knew trying to get everyone to listen to Q-Tip’s album but people weren’t on it.  That’s their loss, not mine.  By the way, I really had a hard time leaving off Kanye West “Coldest Winter” but I am okay with it because he has been on here enough).

2009. Lightworks – MF DOOM [Born Like This] (Sorry, if I make a list, MF has to be on there.  It’s just one of my rules in life.  Since it’s early I’m giving it to him this year and If you have a problem, get at me.)
